Currently, research projects on youth-onset diabetes, bothtype 1 diabetes (T1D) and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are supervised by Dr A. Amutha. Research activities include research areas of basic, epidemiological, clinical, and biochemical profiles and complications of T1D and T2D, especially in young children and adolescents. The team studied the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes, especially the role of beta cell function and insulin sensitivity among young individuals. The team is involved in the nationwide Registry of diabetes in India at young onset (ICMR) and harmonization of registries from the US (SEARCH) and India (YDR). Presently, the ICMR YDR – Registry and Cohort component is an ongoing study in the department.
The Department of Youth-Onset Diabetes, led by Dr. A. Amutha, focuses on advancing research in both Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) among children and adolescents. The department’s research activities encompass basic, epidemiological, clinical, and biochemical aspects, aiming to better understand the profiles and complications associated with early-onset diabetes. Under Dr. Amutha’s guidance, the department is dedicated to generating insights that contribute to early diagnosis, effective management, and improved quality of life for young individuals living with diabetes.
