GESTATIONAL DIABETES MELLITUS
Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is diabetes diagnosed during pregnancy. GDM poses a potentially serious threat to maternal and child health if not adequately managed. The International Diabetes Federation estimates that almost 5 million women in India alone have GDM.

ABOUT THE UPDATE
This update aims to provide state-of-the-art scientific information on screening, diagnosis and management of GDM. The update provides an excellent platform to gain indepth knowledge on GDM and to interact with international and national experts in this field.
At the update, the WINGS (Women in INdia with GDM Strategy) “Model approach to GDM care” jointly developed by International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation (MDRF) will be presented which includes training modules and educational materials; a website and a mobile app on GDM will also be launched.

About THE WINGS Project *
The WINGS project was developed to tackle the increased prevalence of GDM in India offering a multidisciplinary approach to GDM care which is both effective and feasible for implementation in resource –constrained settings.
*The WINGS project has been developed through a partnership between the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation [MDRF] in Chennai, India, and the Abbott Fund, the philanthropic foundation of the global health company Abbott.
